Advertising your information

Once you have your information in a Web server, you will want to tell others about it. There are various methods of letting people know of the existence of your server: you can register with one of a number of global registries, you can announce it on USENET news groups, electronic mailing lists or `what's new' pages such as those of NCSA, or you can include the address in traditional advertisements. You can also ask other organizations to include links from their Web pages to yours. Once links to your server from the wider Web exist, automatic indexing programs will discover them and your documents will appear in many global indexes.

The document is mainly of historical interest as obviously many of the sites mentioned have long since disappeared.
