Network connectionIf the organization is not yet connected to the Internet you will have to consider how to go about this. If you want to operate as a publicly accessible Web server site you will need a permanent connection to the Internet. With a dial-up connection outsiders will only be able to access the server when your link to the Internet access provider is up, if at all (some Internet access providers do not allow incoming connections to dial-up links). Permanent connections to the Internet are available in a range of bandwidths, from 9600bps upwards. Generally the faster the connection the more expensive it is. The optimum bandwidth is affected by a combination of the volume of all Internet traffic at your site (that is not just the Web) and how fast you want the connection to appear to the outside world. The situation varies greatly from country to country and there are a number of useful books on the subject listed in the bibliography.
