NCSA server

NCSA httpd was written by Rob McCool while at NCSA. It is a fully featured Web server for UNIX systems, with support for configurable mapping of URLs to files, access authorization, and automatic generation of directory indexes.

It is available at no charge in binary form for many UNIX workstations (including: Digital Equipment Alpha (AXP), Digital Equipment Ultrix, Hewlett Packard HP/UX, IBM RS/6000, Silicon Graphics IRIX and Sun Microsystems SunOS) and in source form:

ftp://ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Web/httpd/Unix/ncsa_httpd/current/httpd_source.tar.Z

The most recent version is 1.3, which was released into the public domain in May 1994.

Note: this HTML document was generated in December 1994 directly from the LaTeX source files using LaTeX2HTML. It was formatted into our standard page layout using the Template Toolkit. The document is mainly of historical interest as obviously many of the sites mentioned have long since disappeared.
