Audience

This book is aimed at people who want to publish information on the Web. There are a number of groups who may be involved in the process:

  • Systems administrators responsible for running Web servers;

  • Managers responsible for Web use as part of a broader organizational strategy.

  • Authors of material for publication;

Obviously these groups may overlap; it is quite possible that all three rôles will be assumed by one individual, but even where this not the case it is still helpful to have an understanding of the broader issues involved.

It is assumed that the reader will have some experience of the Internet and some understanding of what the common Internet services such as electronic mail and file transfer offer. If you need to know more about any of these topics refer to the bibliography at the back of the book.
