The scope of this book

The book deals with all the processes necessary to create and manage a Web site. These include setting up and administering a server, preparing material for publication, converting existing material into a form suitable for publication, publicizing your presence and making material available on the Web.

Pointers are given, where appropriate, to documents and software freely available on the Web. Pointers are expressed as URLs (the naming scheme used on the Web, fully described in the book). Bear in mind that information may move, or be deleted or superseded over the course of time.

The book is not intended to be a comprehensive catalogue of all the information available on the Web as this material has been widely covered elsewhere. Its scope is restricted to material directly relevant to the provision of information.

Note: this HTML document was generated in December 1994 directly from the LaTeX source files using LaTeX2HTML. It was formatted into our standard page layout using the Template Toolkit. The document is mainly of historical interest as obviously many of the sites mentioned have long since disappeared.
