Previous: Viewer programs
Once you have installed the Web server software you will have to
configure your system so that the server is started automatically and
also configure the server itself to suit your own particular
requirements. Some configuration details are determined by the server
start-up mechanism, others by the server's defaults or configuration
files.
The configuration files of the two main servers, the CERN and NCSA
HTTP daemons, are quite similar and so are dealt with together in
Section . The HTTPD for Windows server is
based on the NCSA server and uses a very similar set of configuration
files. It can be configured in a similar manner. The GN server takes
a completely different approach and is dealt with separately.

interest as obviously many of the sites mentioned have long since
disappeared.
